((((Beetroot Design Group Presents: NAKED KING (Thessaloniki, Greece)
"The words on the bottle label are in Greek, and are the name of the wine which is "NAKED KING. The words on the wooden box are the whole fairytale "The emperor's clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen and highlighted and bigger are the words "the king is naked".

Brief: A new winemaker contacted us in order to provide a visual identity to their new wine. The wine is of extremely high quality, but free from any filtering or chemical treatments, so it sits there exposed, without any chemical aid for the consumer to taste it.

Solution: "You could say that it was the king of wines ...but a sincere one." the client said. That reminded us of the Hans Christian Andersen tale "The Emperor's clothes" where the king sits naked and exposed for everyone to see who he really was. So we decided to name the wine "NAKED KING". In order to visually present that, we designed the label of the bottle shaped like a crown and embossed the title NAKED KING instead of printing it. We wanted to show that way it would seem like a naked king, without anything on. For the wooden box we silk printed in the front the tale with big type like in a child book and highlighted the words "The king is naked".))))

As you see, Beetroot let US try to figure out their concept of the wine packaging by visually representing the naked king with a plain white crown. Then they execute the packaging with beautiful silk printed type that makes people nostalgic of tales they heard during their childhood. It ties it all together fairly perfectly :)
I LOVE CLEAN DESIGN. I think simplicity can mean a lot more than throwing a bunch of informative nonsense on a product. Minimal, clean design can leave a better impression on the consumer and they are able to EXPERIENCE something for themselves rather than yelling it at them. I dunno, this packaging made me oo and ahh. It's my third oo and ahh of this blog and there are many more to come.

ALICE THUMBNAILS

My ideas are not completely flushed out yet, but I jotted down and sketched out things that I could possibly use. I might make something with a combination of several of my ideas.

-Cheshire cat on front with hologram effect or metallic foil.
-Box set that looks like a door with a smaller door.
-Keyhole texture

-The balance of good (the white queen) and the bad (the red queen.
-Red card and White card

-The cover would be all the characters sitting at a table like "The Last Supper" (image provided already). Inside would be the cds that you flip through, each with a differnt character on it.

The outside box is made to look like the original storybook by Lewis Carroll. When it opens it has the hole that Alice falls through and you progress through the book/box like reading through the story.I would include the Disney animated movie as one of the cds. So you basically get a whole collection of the past and current Alice in Wonderland.

Box set that has four different cds layed out that give you options. It's a play on one of the themes of the movie where Alice has to choose: A cake to eat, a potion to drink and sign that points one direction and a sign that points to another. I would include a few more props. And a picture book?

The hat of course. Still thinking about this one...

Alice In Wonderland | Project 2: Special Edition DVD

I had so many expectations of this movie. I've been waiting for it impatiently along with all the other fans. I finally got to watch it yesterday and it did not disappoint. Tim Burton and the crew who made this lewis carroll dream world come to the big screen in 3D is more than words can describe. With that, I want to do my special edition dvd packaging on Alice in Wonderland.

There is so much saturated energy captured in each character, object, costume, plant, etc that I can use for imagery. Hopefully, I can get it right and not completely tarnish the creativity of wonderland. I will focus on the brilliance of colors, the individual character details, and making a dvd package that will jump off the shelf and be interesting to interact with. I want interaction to be a key thing. That's what makes things fun.

5 Inspiring Special Edition DVD/CD Packaging

WANTED | THE IMITATED GLASS WITH THE BULLET HOLE SHATTERING THE CASING IS REALLY CLEVER AND EYE CATCHING. IT FITS RIGHT ALONG WITH THE MOVIE'S THEME AND THE IDEA IS CARRIED AS YOU DWELL FURTHER INTO THE PACKAGING. YOU SEE THAT THE CDS ARE BEING HELD BY A BULLS EYE TARGET. REALLY WELL THOUGHT OUR AND UNIQUE.

CASABLANCA: SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO MAKE OLD MOVIES APPEAL TO A YOUNGER AUDIENCE AND SOMETIMES THAT ISN'T THE POINT, HOWEVER, THIS DVD PACKAGING IS SO CAPTURING BECAUSE OF THE DETAIL PRESENTED IN THE DIE CUT. I LIKE THE SIMPLE COLOR SCHEME OF SKY BLUE, GOLD, AND BLACK AND WHITE PHOTO IMAGERY. IT FITS THIS MOVIE GENRE REALLY WELL.

HARRY POTTER | AS A HUGE HARRY POTTER FAN, THIS SPECIAL EDITION DVD COLLECTION IS JUST WHAT ANY FAN WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SITTING ON THEIR SHELF AT HOME. YOU GET SUCKED INTO EVERY ASPECT AND QUIRK OF THIS SERIES AND HAVING IT ALL PACKED INTO HARRY'S TRUNK IS ENTERTAINING.

KUNG FU PANDA | THIS PACKAGING IS CUTE AND A PERFECT FIT FOR THIS MOVIE. IT'S NOT YOUR NORMAL "BOX" SET. THE CHINESE TAKE OUT BOX IS A VERY RECOGNIZABLE PACKAGE SO THEY WERE SMART IN APPEALING TO A WIDE AUDIENCE AND CAPTURING THE WHIMSICAL FEEL OF THE CHARACTERS.

PINK PANTHER | THIS BOX SET DESIGNER TOOK THE MOVIE AND CREATED A STORYBOARD SCENE THAT IS ENTERTAINING TO DECIPHER. IT'S MEANT TO BE PLAYFUL, BRIGHT, AND INVITES YOU TO SPEND TIME TO OBSERVE THE WORK THAT GOES INTO CREATING SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THE CD DESIGN IS SIMPLE BUT ALSO FUN BECAUSE IT FOLLOWS THE PINK PANTHER AND ALL HIS ANTICS THAT THE MOVIE IS RENOWNED FOR.
